5 exercises to get started with AI

A practical workshop: five small missions to complete step by step, even if you have never used an AI.

Before you start

Open ChatGPT or another conversational assistant. Do one exercise at a time. You can copy the requests exactly as they are written.

Exercise 1 — Have a subject explained

Choose a subject you find complicated.

To copyExplain how solar panels work to me in simple words, as if I were 12 years old. Then give a concrete example.

What to notice: does the answer become clearer thanks to the level you asked for and the example?

Exercise 2 — Write an email

To copyWrite a short, polite email to reschedule a doctor's appointment. Suggest a new date next week.

Then edit the text with your real information, without passing on unnecessary confidential details.

Exercise 3 — Summarise a text

Copy a short article or a non-confidential letter, then add:

To copySummarise this text in five points. End with the important dates, amounts or actions to remember.

Exercise 4 — Organise a task

To copyPrepare a simple list to organise a move in one month. Sort the tasks by week and show the priorities.

Exercise 5 — Improve an answer

Take one of the previous answers and write, one after another:

  • Make it shorter.
  • Use simpler words.
  • Add an example.
  • Present the result as a list.

Your checklist

The request is clear if…

  • the expected result is stated;
  • the situation is explained;
  • the tone or format is given;
  • the length you want is known.

The answer is ready if…

  • you have re-read it;
  • the important facts are checked;
  • personal information is removed;
  • the text sounds like you.
