In everyday life

What AI can do for you

No need to be an expert. AI can help you carry out simple, useful tasks, using everyday words.

Start with a concrete need

A letter to write, a document that is too long, a fact to find or a poster to prepare: explain your need simply. AI offers a first result, then you improve it together.

The phrase that almost always works

"Help me to…" then describe your need in your own words. Next add the recipient, the tone and the length you want.

Universal template"Help me [do the task]. It is intended for [the person]. Use a [simple, polite, warm] tone and make a [short or detailed] answer."

You can reuse this template to write, search, create, summarise, translate, explain or organise.

Use 01

Write

No more sitting alone in front of a blank page.

Writing with AI means asking a very fast assistant to help you prepare a first draft of a text. You explain the situation, the person you are writing to and the tone you want.

It can help you draft a letter, an email, a complaint, an ad, an official letter, a reply or a presentation.

Example to copy"Write a short, simple and polite letter to ask my landlord to fix a water leak."

You can then ask: "Make it shorter", "Use simpler words", "Make the letter firmer but still polite" or "Add the date and the subject line".

AI proposes. You re-read, you correct and you decide on the final text.

Use 03

Create

Do simply what others seem to know how to do.

Creating with AI is not about building robots or complicated images. It is about quickly producing something useful: a business card, a poster, an invitation, a CV, an ad, a flyer or a presentation.

It is a bit like taking a template from a notebook, then changing it with your own information.

Example to copy"Write the text for a simple business card for a house painter, with their name, phone number and main services."
Another example"Prepare a clear poster to announce a garage sale in my neighbourhood, with the date, time and address."

Then ask: "Make it simpler", "Write it bigger", "Shorten the text" or "Give me a version ready to copy into Canva".

Use 04

Summarise

Let AI read the twenty pages and keep the essentials.

Official letters, contracts, manuals and articles are sometimes too long or too complicated. AI can spot the main ideas and put them into simple words.

It can bring out the dates, amounts, obligations, steps to take and questions to ask.

Example to copy"Summarise this letter in five simple points. Tell me what I need to do, by what date and which documents are requested."

You can also ask for a summary in three lines, in ten points or "as if for someone new to the subject".

For a contract or a medical, tax or legal decision, always re-read the original document and seek professional advice if needed.
Use 05

Translate

Understand a message before replying to it.

AI can translate an email, a manual, a web page, a recipe or a document into many languages. It can also adapt the tone and explain difficult expressions.

Example to copy"Translate this email into simple English, then explain in one sentence what the person is asking me."

To reply, you can ask: "Write a short, polite reply in English, then also give me the French translation."

For official, administrative or legal documents, a professional translation may still be necessary.

Use 06

Explain

Turn complicated words into ordinary ones.

A bill, an insurance policy, a device or a procedure can seem complicated simply because the explanation is poor. AI can rephrase it several times, with different examples.

Example to copy"Explain this bill to me like a beginner. Tell me what each amount is for and what I should check."

You can say: "Explain it differently", "Give me an everyday example", "Draw it with words" or "Go step by step".

Sometimes we are not short on intelligence. We are simply short of a clear explanation.

Use 07

Organise

Bring order when everything gets mixed up.

AI can turn a messy list into a schedule, into steps or into a table. It can help prepare groceries, a move, renovation work, a trip or revision.

Example to copy"Organise my move over four weeks. Make a simple list, week by week, without forgetting the important steps."

You can state the time you have, the budget, the dates and the people who can help. AI then reorganises the plan around your constraints.

It does not do the tasks for you, but it helps you see where to begin.

Use 08

Understand

You do not have to get it the first time.

You can ask AI to start a subject again from the beginning, to slow down, to drop the technical words or to check what you have understood.

Example to copy"Explain this subject in three small steps. After each step, ask me a simple question to check I have understood."

You can ask for a comparison with a car, a house, a recipe or a familiar situation. A new comparison can sometimes unlock a whole subject.

AI can start over without losing patience. Use that.

Use 09

Decide

Understand the choices before you act.

AI can put two solutions side by side, lay out their advantages, their limits and the questions still to be checked. It helps you think, but it must not choose for you.

Example to copy"Compare these two quotes in a simple table. Show the differences, the missing items and the questions to ask the companies."

Also ask: "What am I likely to forget?", "Which criteria really matter?" or "What information should I check before deciding?"

For an important decision, use AI as a thinking aid. Check the facts and ask a qualified person for their opinion.

A single sentence is enough to begin

Choose a simple everyday task, explain it in your own words, then improve the result step by step.
